No seriously, the four of us have been working quite hard, although probably not hard enough. It's quite early to say what new Parades music sounds like, but avoiding traps old and new, whilst still being ourselves (but different) is not as complex as it reads. Auxillary percussion is poison. There at least half a dozen songs in the bag, with many more to come. Photos and all that stuff should turn up really soon.

Go and see The Deathly Hallows Pt 1 and Jono on tour in December. He's rolling out new music, it's incredible. Support that.

  • Tour Cancelled. New Album Starts.

In case you haven't heard yet the Ernest Ellis - Parades co headline tour has been cancelled.

Mr Ellis has an aggravated ear condition which could cause permanent damage when exposed to loud noises such as a concert, or worse yet, a string of concerts that carry with it the same performers and themes. He's cancelled all his shows for the rest of the year. If you already had tickets you can get a full refund from the point of purchase.

We still have some shows left this year (one movement, peats ridge, new years in brisbane) but are very unlikely to be replacing the tour with more shows. We are instead using this time to do something we have long talked about, give birth to a new record.

  • AN ANNOUNCEMENT OF VAGUE INTEREST

    Halal how are you?

A kind heads up to you who has seen us/will see us this year! Henceforth, we will be performing all of Parades current and future material as a four piece.

In the near past we have had many of our astonishingly talent friends come on the road and play live in Parades. Our gratitude to them is far reaching, exponential and infinite, and everything we do from now will be done so in their honour.

But it is high time to begin a new chapter, turn over a new leaf, close the case, baton down the hatches, start anew, start the machine, get even and GANGWAY.

For all shows now and forever more, Parades will be Tim, Jono, Mike and Dan.

For all the fish, we'd like to thank the following heroes:

Kirsty Tickle of Little Scout, for playing every QLD show and for coming to Perth on a school night to play in WA and along with her sister Mel, for being the kindest of strangers we've ever known.

    http://www.myspace.com/littlescoutmusic

Jan Jugueta of Sealion, for being omnipresent and omnipotent. Also, for his lightning fingers and cabasa flair on the Klaxons Tour.

    http://www.myspace.com/sealion

Tim Watkins of Great Grandchildren+10 other bands, for continually changing songs in the car during mid-vibe. And for like, everything.

    http://www.myspace.com/greatgrandchildren

Christine Hazelwood of Sleepy Hands, for playing some of the biggest shows we've ever done with little to no practice, just sheer talent and an iron stomach.

    http://www.myspace.com/sleepyhands

Importantly last but hardly least, Freya and Alyx from Kyu for gracefully getting this band through 2010.

    http://www.myspace.com/kyusounds

We're here because of these people. Support their music however you can and may. Stay tunes for another...ANNOUNCEMENT OF VAGUE INTEREST

Over the last week or so we've done a small tour of WA and have just returned from 2 shows supporting the Klaxons in both Sydney and Melbourne. I'm not sure if any of us have had a quiet moment to reflect on it, but I'm taking one right now and here's what I think:

I think I'm on the brink of some kind of pseudo mental episode. I don't think I have the mental capacity (or incapacity?) to actually have a fully fledged one, so I'm wallowing in the murky shadow of how epic and disastrous a real one could potentially be. To say things happen quickly is an understatement. In going to Perth, I've realised that I've now been to a place in this country that I never thought I would ever go regardless of any factor at all. In doing this Klaxons tour, we've played on a stage in our hometown that we're in awe of and reverent towards each and every time we watch a band play there.

I can't explain the feeling, but it's almost an unnatural one. I don't really know what I'm saying either to be honest with you. Are we worthy of the opportunities? Will we know when it all ends? And where? A strangeness we'll just have to learn as truth. Off to Brisbane then...

  • Little secrets

I came to the end of "You Shall Know Our Velocity" (excellent reading), which I had bought second hand of the internets. I always check the blank page at the back of a book, out of habit really, for no reason whatsover. And I found something written by the previous owner (spelling and grammar intact):

"Like someone said on the back, this book could inspire a generation as much as it documents it, and that it does , I think, with the humor we must keep, the audacity we need to learn how and when to use, and the bombastic assault on all that we know to be true and real in this world.

Rolling your eyes will accomplish nothing, but this does, and I will, and I hope you will. I know it like I know the sun settles in the west I call home, but I still look at my compass every now and then just to be sure

The dark will keep fear at bay just as we keep shoes tied as we walk and a little loose when we skate, allowing a little room for chaos to reign, and somewhere between the space the sky hides with intentions of warmth and the earth we're so fond of manipulating with spades and soles, that's where we reside, breathing the tides in thankless intervals of moon-cycling sound, in and around us until we can no longer look left, right or behind - and then there is up, and we become the oceans sea" ... Sean Talbot October 6, 2009

Truly astounding. Our album "Foreign Tapes" will be out in April on Dot Dash/Remote Control

  • There is to much talk of

too much talking! when often all you want to see is things happening and balls rolling and wheels turning. For me, and probably the other Paradisans the wheels of this band seem to turn too slowly. But I am thankful that is has wheels at at all.

I was chatting to this guy at my job today (the club next door to Jono's place that ironically/ambiently plays Community Service Announcement from time to time) who was tuning the grand piano that spews out horrific covers of everyone's favourites on a Friday night...from Khe San to a really fucking crap version of Fake Plastic Trees.

According to this eastern european fellow, the piano tuning industry has NOWHEELS and is likely to die out within 5 years. Bleak and disturbing, truly. And this was right after he imparted a handful of busted piano strings onto me and referred to the club piano as a "child's play thing". As I stared into that mound of twisted steel, I wondered to myself "Am I gazing upon the the greater fate of piano tuning??" I hope for Tim's sake I wasn't, cos that guy just bought a piano!

Anyway, there is lots to tell in regards to Parades, but we can't say as much until other people do so first, which will be the biggest relief.  ever.

So I jotted down a few good things below. Yes, it's music and books and other I'm-so- postmodernisms, but they were all things that I got put onto in very similar ways. So it does work after all I think.

Perhaps, far more interesting posts to follow. Be well!

    Watching:

"Fire Was Born" by Cult Of Luna (Jono and I went to see this band play at Manning Bar last year, and this recently acquired live DVD is excavating all sorts of fond memories...I will never grow tired of two drummers in the one band, nor will I grow tired of discussing the subject at length with him)
